SpeakYourMind is a young, completely independent organisation. Everyone involved is directly in touch with various aspects of the day-to-day realities of teaching English and have a lot of their heads and much of their hearts in the classroom.
The SpeakYourMind project began in the mid 90's in Verona, Italy where Iain McInally had co-founded a school of English. Fascinated by teaching and frustrated by teaching approaches where received ideas would hide the evidence and deny common sense, one thing led to another and the school in Verona began to double as a workshop, as classroom procedures and teaching materials took shape and evolved - a process that continues today. The school in Verona grew and has gained a strong local reputation.
Word spread through one of those grapevines and soon other schools in Spain, Japan, London and Italy showed interest and decided to adopt SyM for their own General English courses.
Until recently, all our efforts have been focused on developing and trialling teaching methodology and updating and improving course materials. But with consistently positive response from students, the step towards spreading the use of SyM seemed natural. 2007 saw the creation of Network Development at SyM and the beginning of a more proactive approach to expanding the network of associated schools.
As an owner or manager of an existing school or as someone who sees the potential for a start-up in their own area, if anything you have read on this web-site strikes a chord with you and you'd like to find out more, please feel free to get in touch.
